Book On Rabat’s history of football launched

Malta Independent Thursday, 8 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Rabat Ajax Football Club has launched a book, The History of Rabat Ajax Football Club 1930-2006.

Written and edited by Louis Azzopardi, ex-player and committee member for many years, the book includes a fascinating insight into the history of the club. In fact, this is Azzopardi’s updated second edition about the club’s history having published a first edition in 1995.

The attractive 136-page publication includes a record of all results and playing staff Rabat Ajax has had since the club’s foundation in 1930 and contains messages from two ex-presidents.

Mr Azzopardi has gone to great lengths to make this book a mine of records which we rarely, if ever, have the opportunity to read about any club on these islands. The book rounds up with a number of action pictures from the ‘50’s era at the Empire Stadium in Gzira.

In launching the book, Rabat Ajax FC president Mr Amadeo Zammit said this book was a result of several years of research by Louis Azzopardi. Unfortunately, most of the records the club had were destroyed in the 1979 flooding, thus making Azzopardi’s work harder to retrieve.

Mr Zammit thanked the author, because besides giving him great satisfaction in the publication of the book, the profits generated will go to the club. He also thanked all those who helped in any way to make this book a success, especially Albert Pearson, who helped in no small measure in the setting-up of the book.

This book is a must for all Rabat Ajax FC followers and indeed for all football lovers all over the island.

The History of Rabat Ajax Football Club 1930 – 2006 can be bought from the Rabat Ajax Football Club and stationers at the price of Lm2.50.
