The sewage treatment plant near Mgarr ix-Xini in Gozo has been completed on time and on budget.

The plant was commissioned on Friday and handles nearly all sewage in Gozo.

Just over half the EUR6.52 million project has been funded by the European Union.

Another two sewage treatment plants are being built in Malta. The Gozo plant will be operated for its first five years by the contractor who built it. It will then be transferred to the Water Services Corporation.
