The murder of Nationalist Party activist Raymond Caruana was commemorated yesterday with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Gudja cemetery.
Yesterday’s ceremony marked 21 years since Mr Caruana was shot dead at the Gudja PN headquarters, on 5 December 1986, at the age of 26.
Mr Caruana was slain by shots fired from a passing car, which shattered the club’s glass door and claimed Mr Caruana’s life. No one else was injured in the drive-by shooting.
The incident occurred in the darker days of Maltese politics leading up to the 1987 general election, and took place just six days after the infamous Tal-Barrani street clashes in the outskirts of Zejtun.
