I refer to the section Odds and Ends (TMID, 24 December) especially to the comment regarding the situation in St Trophimus Street.

Please note that such works are being engaged by a Water Services Corporation contractor who replaced a lot of water mains in various roads around Sliema. This water replacement programme was necessary.

The water mains have all been replaced and this will enable the contractor to carry out the resurfacing programme in one comprehensive programme. These last few days have been characterised by a lot of bad weather. I have contacted the contractor who has replied that, weather permitting, the hot asphalt works will resume on Wednesday 2, January.
