A man caught stealing a handbag in St Julian’s yesterday is to be charged in court with the offence this morning, the police said.

In a statement, the police said that at 6am, a snatch and grab theft took place in Borg Olivier Street in St Julian’s.

A 51-year-old woman was walking in the street when she was approached by a man who ran off with her handbag.

The police went on site and, when a man saw them approaching, ran off. He was followed by the police who caught up with him in Birkirkara Hill. The man, a Somali national, will be arraigned in court today.
