Christmas Activities in Paola

Malta Independent Thursday, 3 January 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

I would like to publicly thank all those who were involved and the public who attended the first edition of the activity Milied Imdawwal, held in Paola on Saturday 22 December between 6pm and midnight.

Although the weather was not favourable, thousands of people still flocked to Paola to enjoy the atmosphere and do their last shopping needs before Christmas, while taking part in the activities and shows that were being held in different parts of Paola Square and the surrounding streets.

On behalf of the organising committee I would like to thank all shop owners and their employees who took part in the activity, the Urban Development and Roads Ministry and the Tourism and Culture Ministry who supported this initiative taken by the Socjeta De Paule.

Our thanks also goes to the main sponsors who also supported the activity – Main Street Complex, Bank of Valletta, Vodafone, National Euro Changeover Committee, Sonlit Ltd and Elmo Insurance.

Our appreciation for their cooperation goes to the Paola local council, the police authorities, the Malta Transport Authority and the Association of Bus Drivers. The organising committee also wishes to thank other organisations for their participation: The Paola parish and religious societies, Corradino Correctional Facility, Hibernians FC, MLP Paola, Paola Girl Guides and St Johns Ambulance Brigade. Members of the media also contributed to the success of this initiative through their promotion prior to the activity. Our thanks therefore goes to all radio stations and presenters, local newspapers and editors, news editors and journalists from the three main news rooms of the local TV stations.

Without the helping hand of numerous volunteers such an activity could not take place. So our appreciation also goes for the large number of helpers, all members of the Socjeta De Paule, who worked day and night in order to make this activity a success. Last but not least our thanks go to the Paola residents who may have suffered some inconvenience due to less parking spaces and traffic on the day of the activity but who, I am more than sure, have welcomed this initiative.

The organising committee is analysing the outcome of the event and will definitely work on improving on this year’s edition to make this activity an annual appointment in the national calendar of cultural activities. We welcome any suggestions from those interested and also welcome interested parties in future editions to contact us on e-mail [email protected] .
