Court: AKAM Files judicial protest against Malta Song Board

Malta Independent Wednesday, 16 January 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 17 years ago

The Association of Singers, Composers, Artists and Musicians (AKAM) yesterday filed a judicial protest in the First Hall of the Civil Court, requesting the Malta Song Board to make public the results of the votes of the selection process for Song for Europe.

In the writ, AKAM called on the Malta Song Board to publish the results of the board’s selection process for the 17 songs chosen for the semi-finals of the Song for Europe contest.

AKAM said that several of their members submitted songs and, as a result, have a legitimate interest as to how the votes that led to the final results were given.

Furthermore, AKAM had also called on the Malta Song Board to give them this information – but to no avail. The association said that it is the board’s duty to make this information accessible to the interested parties, especially if one kept in mind the time and work invested.

The writ called on the Malta Song Board to make this information available within 24 hours of notification.

Dr Patrick Galea and Dr Sharon Mizzi signed the writ.
