Restoration OfSt Paul church in Valletta

Malta Independent Wednesday, 23 January 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Restoration in Malta covers diverse aspects related to historical and architectural heritage.

The restoration of lockers known as kaxxarizzi in the sacristy of the church of St Paul’s Shipwreck in Valletta, is a unique and typical case of work which is giving new life to a structure made by the architect Carapecchia, in the times of the Knights, Resources and Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit said.

The sacristy, which was joined to the rest of the church in 1684, overlooks what is today Sta Lucija Street, by means of a prominent entrance projected by Frà Romano Fortunato Carapecchia, the Roman architect.

Mr Zammit said the specialised restoration work showed what care the government is devoting to our historical heritage.
