MUT Issues directives to learning support assistants

Malta Independent Wednesday, 30 January 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Learning support assistants who work for 29 hours a week at junior lyceums or a college have been directed by the Malta Union of Teachers to stop work after the noon break for the rest of the day on 8 February.

The MUT said it had written to the Education Permanent Secretary last November to register an industrial dispute because many LSAs at junior lyceums were not being paid for the extra hours they were having to work every week.

They had not been paid their dues in the January salary, and others were still owed for the scholastic year 2005-2006, the MUT said.
