US Embassy Announces increase in passport fees

Malta Independent Friday, 8 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The US Embassy in Floriana provides passport services including issuance and renewal to US citizens living in Malta. Owing to an increase in the cost of providing efficient and secure passport services, the Department of State is instituting a new fee schedule for passport services.

As of 1 February, the cost to issue a new passport to a US citizen age 16 and older will be $100 and the cost to issue a passport to US citizen under 16 years old will be $85. The fee to renew a passport will be $75.

Other changes to the passport application process to be introduced on 1 February will affect minors applying for a passport at the US Embassy in Floriana. Minors under the age of 16 who are US citizens will have to appear personally at the Consular Section to establish identity, proof of citizenship, and proof of relationship. Both parents will be required to appear personally at the Consular Section with minor US citizens under the age of 16 to sign the application. If both parents cannot appear together, one parent may appear to sign but must submit the other parent’s notarised statement or primary evidence of sole authority. Minors aged 16 and 17 may apply in person with their own identification but must be prepared to provide parental consent.

For more information on passport services, including instructions on how to apply, the new fee schedule, and other important changes, please visit the US Embassy’s website at http://malta.usembassy.gov or http://travel.state.gov/passport. US citizens travelling abroad should regularly monitor these websites where the current worldwide travel warnings and alerts can be found.

US citizens in Malta and Gozo are encouraged to register their presence in the country through the US Department of State’s automated online registration system https://travelregistration.state.gov. US citizens may also contact the Consular Section at the US Embassy in Floriana via email [email protected] or by phoning 2561-4114.
