Perfect Sense…for the MLP

Malta Independent Saturday, 9 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The “reception class” makes perfect sense – for the MLP - if one understands the reasoning behind it.

Knowing that the economy will take another nose-dive under a Labour administration, it is quite natural for the economy to shed precious jobs.

Having a reception class will lengthen a student’s stay in the schooling system and reach the labour market one year later. This, without doubt will help the unemployment statistics, which the MLP knows very well how to manipulate.

The MLP’s problem is, that with today’s education level and the ease of communication, many young parents are informed well enough to see through this smoke-screen thrown at the voters’ face on the eve of the upcoming election.

Malta does not need to hold back its prospective workforce. On the contrary, we should find ways to speed up the rate of graduates from the university and other colleges in order to meet with the expanding labour market, which has turned to labour importation, in contrast with high unemployment under successive Labour administrations of the past. Thank God, Dr Lawrence Gonzi did not need to employ thousands on the government’s payroll on the eve of this election in order to pare down unemployment statistics.

Let us look into a more prosperous future under another Nationalist government which has full trust in the capability of the Maltese students and eventual workforce.
