We agree with the National Commission Persons with Disability and the Maltese Council Of Disabled Persons expressing their concern for the proposal made by the Malta Labour Party to convert part of St Luke’s Hospital for people with a disability, who do not have the necessary support from members of their family.

We welcome the explanatory statement made by the Malta Labour Party’s spokesperson for Social Solidarity Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca to the effect that the modification will take the form of residential units.

Furthermore, she mentioned that these small units would be similar to the other residential houses we already have in the community.

So we ask, why does it have to be at St Luke’s? Is it so impossible to find other locations in the community for these homes?
