To Dear Daphne, Gonzi and Sant Co. Ltd

From Mr J. Portelli

Dear Dr Lawrence Gonzi: you said that, if elected, you will take the reform of Mepa directly into your own hands. But tell us how you will reform Mepa. Will it protect our natural habitats, our land and our open spaces from building and construction? Or is this a last-gasp gimmick?

Dear Dr Alfred Sant: you are not so specific about how you are going to reform Mepa. You talk in general and vague terms and you have already made up your mind to ruin Hondoq ir-Rummien and another natural habitat in Gozo with your golf course. Don’t you see that ruining our natural environment will make us all poorer and will be irreversible. Don’t forget Nauru – an island paradise ruined forever.

Dear Daphne: I didn’t know you were so blinkered. Voting for small political parties is good and brings change in our country. The main political parties have to change and adapt because there is a threat from these parties. Competition is healthy in this regard. And don’t you know that evolution is adapting according to the environment?

We need small political parties, we need pressure groups, we need environmental organisations that are not dependant upon government funds.

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. That’s why we need all the players. That’s why it is not good to have much of our mass media biased either one way or the other.

Joe Portelli
