Coalition Government

Malta Independent Saturday, 23 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

It seems that history did repeat itself. After almost 20 years in office, the present government is taking everyone for granted rendering itself arrogant. This reminds me of the situation in the late 1980s but with a difference.

This time the electorate will go a step forward and elect a two party government.

Once elected in parliament, Alternattiva Demokratika will

form a coalition government with one of the other parties.

To facilitate coalition, a coalition manifesto was launched by AD a couple of weeks ago highlighting six main issues to be considered along with the agenda of the other parties. The people will be better represented and the coalition government will work in favour of national interests and not in favour of the few.

Hijacking of the government by a building contractor will become something of the past. Contrary to what some try to perceive, a coalition government provides better stability since the consensus is more widespread. Let us not forget that the shortest lived government in recent history was a single party one back in 1998.
