Obsessed With Sant

Malta Independent Wednesday, 19 March 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

I would like to comment on what Daphne Caruana Galizia wrote (TMID, 14 March), mostly criticising Dr Alfred Sant. I use the word mostly because out of every four articles, one is about Dr Sant. Maybe she is obsessed with him; I wonder?

Her latest comment was that “The Labour Party seriously underestimated how disliked and mistrusted he was as a potential prime minister”. I am sorry, but this is the same as the bottle being half empty or half full.

Half the bottle belonged to Dr SAnt. And if in the other election he lost by 12,000, this time he lost by 1,500, which is far of from what Ms Caruana Galizia’s statement implies - that he was disliked by most.

Yes, I agree with Ms Caruana Galizia that the political sphere in Malta was changed by Dom Mintoff, who was the last person I expected to do what he did to his own party. And I also blame Dr Sant for not being a mature politician. He should have dealt with the situation in a different way. Like Dr Lawrence Gonzi did with John Dalli.

Now, what Dr Sant did when he was in office is the same thing that the Nationalist Party did during the last term in office – the water and electricity bill was increased four fold, at least that is what I am paying now. If Ms Caruana Galizia’s bills are still that cheap I am all ears to learn how.
