Election Of Malta Labour Party leader

Malta Independent Sunday, 30 March 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

After the third defeat in a row, the Malta Labour Party should delve deep into its soul to try and find the real reasons why it has lost all the general elections since 1998.

Then it has to take the necessary steps to increase as much as possible the number of voters that would be eligible to vote for the next leader by including all the registered members within the party, say up to 2006, to eliminate any chance of abuse.

Then we could easily say that we have begun thinking in an enlightened way, which could lead this great party to govern the country in five years’ time.

This is not a show of mistrust in the party delegates; on the contrary, all registered members (with the exception of the most recent ones and only as a precaution against any abuse) are duty bound to shoulder part of the responsibility of electing a new leader. I hope that this suggestion is taken up and implemented without further delay for the benefit of the Labour Party.
