I am contesting the forthcoming Malta Union of Teachers elections and am running for the post of president.

This attempt of mine is turning out to be quite an ordeal. At one stage I even had to seek legal advice to ensure my candidature. I am clearly the underdog in this race since I don’t have the unlimited luxury of visiting schools, nor any office and meeting facilities to get my message through to MUT members.

In order to make it possible for me to communicate with MUT members about my candidature, I asked the MUT General Secretary to give me members’ postal and e-mail addresses. I immediately received a negative answer citing Data Protection Act concerns.
