Malta Independent Tuesday, 1 April 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Lawyer Toni Abela has expressed an interest in contesting for the post of deputy leader of the Malta Labour Party.

In an interview with local web portal Maltarightnow.com, Dr Abela said he did not exclude the possibility of contesting for one of the two posts which will become available when Dr Charles Mangion and Dr Michael Falzon step down after the MLP leadership poll.

Dr Abela is popular among Labour Party supporters, but is known within the party for his changing views and politics. Dr Abela had been removed from the MLP when president of the same party and subsequently went on to form Alternattiva Demokratika with Wenzu Mintoff in 1989 before rejoining the MLP at a later date.
