Outstanding Response for philanthropic project

Malta Independent Wednesday, 2 April 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Contributions to the philanthropic project Pitazz u Lapes jew Gugarell (Exercise Book and Pencil or Toy) launched by the Association of Lyceum Past Students (ALPS) have by far surpassed all expectations. And contributions went beyond just exercise books, pencils and toys.

ALPS Philanthropic Commission Chairman Nazarene Azzopardi said that box upon box of pencils, crayons, chalk, exercise books, rulers, school haversacks, regular toys and soft toys from students in state, Church and private schools in Malta and Gozo, saturated the space available at the Association’s headquarters in Pietà, and additional space had to be sought in a private residence in Lija.

There were also stationery firms and individuals who, on hearing about the project, asked to be allowed to contribute.

These boxes have now been collected by the Mission Fund of Mosta, for inclusion in a container destined for the Maltese Franciscan Sisters in Mwanza, Tanzania.

ALPS President George dei Conti Stagno Navarra said that, as in 2006, all schools and individuals contributing to the success of the campaign will be receiving a parchment certificate of acknowledgement and thanks. The Council of Administration is also grateful to all those who helped in other ways such as the transportation and packing of contributions, especially Membership Commission Chairman Anthony Aquilina.
