Redeployment Scheme for former VF and Bortex Employees launched

Malta Independent Saturday, 19 April 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 17 years ago

Employers hiring redundant workers from VF and Bortex are being offered a “redeployment grant” covering half the minimum wage for 17 weeks. This funding is being made available by the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) and co-financed by the Maltese Government. This scheme is being implemented by the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC) starting from 18 April.

The EU approved Malta’s application for EGF funds on 10 April to assist workers in the textile industry made redundant in late June 2007. This fund targeted 675 workers made redundant as a result of globalisation pressures.

This fund is being used towards a combination of measures including occupational guidance, training, aid for self-employment, job-search allowance and a redeployment scheme.

Employers interested in this scheme may contact the scheme coordinator at ETC on 2220-1275 or at [email protected].
