Court Gives man chance to reform

Malta Independent Thursday, 1 May 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

A 26-year-old man who admitted to stealing was given a second chance after a court heard how he is committed to reform himself.

Costantino Gouder, from Valletta, pleaded guilty to breaking in a Mosta house on 21 January 2007 and stealing cash, dealing in stolen good and relapsing.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera, heard Sedqa representative Ray Grech testify that Gouder entered a drug rehabilitation programme on 10 April 2007 and is making a success out of it.

His programme is now centred to rehabilitate him in his family, who is supporting him wholeheartedly, said Mr Grech.

Magistrate Scerri Herrera said the courts always give a second chance to drug abusers to abandon their vices and thus put him on probation for three years.

Police Inspectors Jeffrey Azzopardi and Therese Sciberras prosecuted.
