Mosaics Of colour and brilliance

Malta Independent Saturday, 10 May 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 17 years ago

Mosaic artist Christian Urpani is currently exhibiting a selection of his brilliantly coloured compositions in glass and marble – a rare event to be sure but one well worth attending. Large works of translucent beauty are created with much patience and hundreds of tiny shards and fragments of colour, thus creating impressive wall showpieces and art with a difference.

From mazes to fantastic swirls of colour concoctions, some mosaics are inspired by Mediterranean colours, others by the patterns of the East, and some more by the sands of the Savanah.

The latest selection of three-dimensional works are exhibited in compositions that include also crushed marble and granite that juxtapose the gloss of glass and the milky qualities of marble to render the final exhibits even more interesting.

Chris Urpani’s work is produced with much patience and attention to minute detail amid all the colours of the spectrum.

Definitely this exhibition deserves a visit, if anything to appreciate how dedication and creativity coupled with an excellent eye for detail can transform the nonentity of broken material into a veritable work of art.

Mosaic art by Christian Urpani can be viewed at Le Meridien St Julians Hotel & Spa until 22 May. For further information on this mosaic art check out www.mosaictecnik.com
