Heritage Malta recently participated in a two-day conference at The Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment in London. The conference was organised by International Council on Monuments and Sites-UK. Dr Martina Caruana, Head of Heritage Malta’s Institute of Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage was amongst the international speakers invited to speak in this conference on Action on skills and training and education for the historic environment which was associated with the launch of the National Heritage Training Groups’ Skills Needs Analysis Research Reports.

Dr Caruana’s presentation entitled ECPL Leonardo Project, Malta - Development of Standard Learning Outcomes for Conservation Education gave a brief overview of this two-year Leonardo da Vinci Project which sought to address the problems caused by diversity and unevenness of education and training in the field of conservation-restoration through the definition of commons standards in conservation-restoration and the establishment of a common European licence. It also discussed in some detail the learning outcomes developed as part of the project for education in conservation-restoration at level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework.
