MLP Should be a forward-looking party – Falzon

Malta Independent Saturday, 31 May 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 17 years ago

Michael Falzon, contesting for the Labour Party leadership, said the positive message the MLP should convey was that it was leftist, Maltese, European and for the environment and that these were the core beliefs of a modern, forward looking party.

They were democratic with a social heart, and proud of their values, he said. But this did not mean the MLP would be born again on 5 June. It would continue building on its achievements.

As a member of the European socialist parties, coming from an EU country, their relations and presence in European institutions and associations should be strengthened. Protecting and respecting the environment should be a core belief, Dr Falzon said.

Dr Falzon has met representatives of the Chamber of Commerce when they discussed various subjects, including the creation of wealth in the country, and its better distribution. Politicians should work together with the social partners and the government, whichever it was, should promote a climate of investment and job creation. Labour’s policies should be pro business, pro trade and for the creation of wealth and profits.
