MEUSAC Aims to strengthen Malta’s EU membership

Malta Independent Tuesday, 3 June 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Malta EU Steering Action Committee (MEUSAC) will create a common interface between the government, EU and civil society and help strengthen Malta’s EU membership in new ways, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said yesterday.

Dr Gonzi, accompanied by the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue and Information, Chris Said, received a courtesy call from MEUSAC head Vanni Xuereb at Castille.

The prime minister said that the committee will be involved with decisions taken at EU level and pointed out that reconstituting MEUSAC was one of his electoral promises.

The prime minister said that consultations were held with the constituted bodies and there was positive feedback all around to make use of MEUSAC as a means of consultation.

Mr Xuereb said that heading MEUSAC is a great challenge but exciting. “There are great expectations from the constituted bodies but MEUSAC will also give importance to small organisations,” he said.
