A 28-year-old man is being held by the police after he was apprehended on Monday night near a shop in St Joseph Street, Tarxien, which was found forced open.

The police went on the spot when they were informed that a burglary was in progress.

They said that when they got there the man tried to escape but was caught. The shop was closed but its shutter and door were found forced open and a tool was found nearby.

Some cash was found missing from the cash register.
