CRACKERS: Hello Everyone

Malta Independent Thursday, 19 June 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Next Saturday, 21 June, marks the beginning of summer. A reminder on the harmful rays, especially between 11am and 4pm, when the sun is at its hottest. So remember to apply adequate sun screen, as well as wearing hats and light-coloured clothes, besides drinking lots of water.

KRS are once again giving you complimentary tickets to go and watch the adventure film, Chronicles of Narnia – Prince Caspian which will be showing in our cinemas from 26 June. The film is full of fantasy and courage and will be a hit with all film-goers especially those who have already watched the other film in the Narnia series.

Next Sunday McDonald’s in collaboration with The Maltese Olympic Committee and The Malta Amateur Athletics Association are organising a fun run. You can either run the 2.5km fun run or cycle it… the choice is yours. More details from our article, Olympic Day Run.

Another activity organised by Agenzija Appogg is the bazaar which is being held next weekend in aid of the Appogg’s Children Fund. Let’s all give a helping hand in this very worthy cause.

Good luck for your exams and see you next Thursday

Summer Fun

Hey kids!

What are you doing this summer?

The Summer holidays are only a few days away and you are faced with the question of what to do with all that time. Or more like, what do you do to entertain yourself in those long summer days. Don’t be bored this summer – there are lots of things to do…

Summertime

is fun time

Pick one of the activities we have prepared for you to keep busy! Pick one every day and have lots of fun!

• Start some type of collection: marbles of every colour and shape, coins, stamps or whatever interests you.

• Visit a Museum: in Malta we are blessed with a number of museums and archaeological sites that can be reached very easily.

• Take up a new sport: go with daddy fishing. Learn the different types of fish that you could catch and what type of bait should be used.

• Start a hobby or craft: learn how to sew, cross-stitch, paint, play an instrument or what really interests you.

• Go to your Public Library: what better way than to spend your hot afternoons reading a good book and being part of an adventure or

mystery.

• Do community service work: join a club or group where you can do

useful work in your village.

• Visit the elderly: go shopping and do errands for someone who may be alone and old and needs your help.

• Play a board game: There are many great board games. For more ideas visit this web site http://www.funattic.com/game_list.htm

• Go out and buy some photo albums, then collect all those snapshots and photos that are laying around in your home and put them in the albums. You will have a great time organising them and there’s so much out there to decorate and add life to your albums.

Summer Song

Summer breeze

summer long

I’ll sing to you

my summer song

Read a poem

A summer song

It isn’t long

It’s just a song

From my heart

a poem long

but not at all

my summer song

My summer long

is something special

a poem, a song

to my heart belong

Summer breeze

summer long

I’ll sing to you

my summer song

IN OUR CINEMAS

‘THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA

– PRINCE CASPIAN’

from 26 June

Fantasy / Adventure

The characters of C. S. Lewis’ timeless fantasy come to life once again in the newest installment of the Chronicles of Narnia series, in which the Pevensie siblings are magically transported back from England to the world of Narnia, where a thrilling, perilous, new adventure and an even greater test of their faith and courage awaits them. One year after the incredible events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the Kings and Queens of Narnia find themselves back in that faraway wondrous realm, only to discover that more than 1,300 years have passed in Narnian time. During their absence, the Golden Age of Narnia has become extinct, Narnia has been conquered by the Telmarines and is now under the control of the evil King Mirax, who rules the land without mercy. The four children will soon meet an intriguing new character; Narnia’s rightful heir to the throne, the young Prince Caspian, who has been forced into hiding as his uncle Miraz plots to kill him in order to place his own newborn son on the throne.

Let’s give a helping hand

For the second consecutive year, volunteers from Agenzija Appogg are organising a bazaar in aid of the Appogg Children’s Fund, from which 254 children benefited last year. This will be held at the parish hall of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hamrun on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June from 8am until 8pm.

Various items will be on sale like plants, clothes, food, toys and books. Children will have their own area to keep themselves entertained. This bazaar is being organised by the Appogg Children’s Fund Committee in conjunction with volunteers from Programm Ulied Darna (PUD). This is a service within Agenzija Appogg provided by volunteers who support families whose children are at great social risk.

The Appogg Children’s Fund is aimed to assist children, directly or through their carers, in meeting their basic or special demands. This is particularly so in situations where children require food, clothing, medication, uniforms, books, payment for a school outing or project, sportswear, visits to a medical consultant or any specialised treatment (medical or

psychological).

Everyone is encouraged to support this initiative in order to raise more funds. Those wishing to help can also make their donation through HSBC Account Number 089059745003.
