Dr Gonzi was testifying before magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera in a case against the Malta Labour Party which was instituted due to disparaging photographs of members of cabinet with the word ‘corruption’ featuring prominently on the same billboards.
The Prime Minister said that the use of his photograph and accusations of corruption made him, as a politician, feel insulted. He told the court that every time that he had been informed of possible cases of corruption, he forwarded the material to the relevant authorities for investigation.
He also said that the recent cabinet reshuffle had nothing to do with the issue in question. Dr Joseph Zammit Maempel appeared for the Prime Minister and the Cabinet while Dr Pawlu Lia appeared for the Malta Labour Party.
