Lady Ga Ga, One Republic, Enrique Iglesias, The Kooks, and N.E.R.D were the protagonists in this year’s edition of the “Isle of MTV Malta Special” – the biggest music event of the year, held yesterday in Floriana.

The five performers delighted the crowd with their top-chart hits, making the evening one to remember. It was Enrique Iglesias’s second show at the Granaries, following his success last year.

Over 40,000 people gathered in Floriana to attend the show, which Malta hosted for the second consecutive year. Maltese and tourists alike, most of them youngsters, screamed and shouted in a party atmosphere on one of the hottest summer nights.

A good number of tourists came to Malta specifically for yesterday’s show. The good news is that such an event would be stunning Malta again next year and the following.

Yesterday’s event was preceded by the first ever Music Week, with events organised in major night life spots around the Maltese islands prior to yesterday’s concert.

Malta was also heavily advertised by MTV as a dream island. In fact, when Enrique Iglesias spoke about the island in a press conference on the eve of the show, he said “I would just be on holiday, resting and having fun here. Malta’s too much fun”.

Apart from Maltese DJs filling in the acts with 20-minute slots, no Maltese artists performed in the show.

The concert would be aired three times on MTV while features of each artist in Malta would also be aired.
