60 Second Interview

Malta Independent Sunday, 20 July 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Joanne Mifsud Micallef is a teacher. She loves everything which has to do with art and the artistic; in fact when she went to Florence for the first time she didn’t want to come back since the works of art there fascinated her so much that she wanted to go on enjoying them forever. She always loved singing ever since she was a little girl and she’s a member and sings as a soloist in the Sine Macula choir. Besides this, she always took part in drama at school. She also loves drawing and painting – a hobby which relaxes her though unfortunately she doesn’t have so much time to practise it. She loves the simple things in life and appreciates the values, which her family has passed on to her. She loves animals especially Persian and other exotic cats. Her husband Kevin Charles and herself own several. She says she owes her husband a great deal as he gives so much energy to everything he does.

Joanne’s latest venture is presenting the programme Aroma Breeze that is dedicated to all the members of the family. Aroma Breeze is on Saturday evenings at 6.15pm with a repeat on the same day at 10.15pm and on Sundays at noon on the Family TV channel. The programme is produced by her husband Kevin Charles Micallef and Joanne. Website: www.aromabreeze.tv

How old are you? Star sign and date of birth?

I’m 30 something, a Capricorn, born on 16 January. I’m proud to be a Capricorn since people born under this sign are creative and very artistic

What would you like to be doing in 10 years’ time?

Working in the media, doing well in my singing career and also having my own kids.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Seeing less hatred, poverty and suffering. I want to see more people caring for others.

What is your favourite occupation?

Something to do with an artistic job.

Significant other?

My husband Kevin.

What is your greatest fear?

Getting on an aeroplane.

What is it that you most value in your friends?

Sincerity and giving without receiving back.

How would you like to die?

I even hate the word itself. I would do anything to save other people’s lives. I don’t ever think of it. Then when it happens, it just happens. I try to live day by day.

What is your greatest

extravagance?

I love the simple things in life. Maybe I would like to have more free time to dedicate to others around me, my husband, my family and those people who need help.

What is your greatest regret?

I have no regrets, but I wish I had gone abroad to study singing in a more professional way, since I am told I have talent.

What is your most treasured possession?

My health, since when you lose it, all the treasures in your life are worthless.

Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

More patience.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Egoism, since when one is selfish, s/he owns nothing in life.

Where would you like to live?

Definitely in Italy, because I love the culture, food, music, art and also their way of life.

What is your most marked characteristic?

Empathy. I try to put myself in other people’s shoes so that I can try to feel their feelings and emotions.

Who are your heroes/heroines in real life?

Persons who are positive, believe in themselves and work very hard to make their dreams come true. My husband has such characteristics.

What is it that you most dislike?

Those people who make fun of others and try to pull them down so that they lose their self-esteem. Those people who try to dominate others and achieve what they want at the expense of others.

What is your motto?

Be creative in life and don’t imitate others.
