Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi is the person responsible for mismanagement in the health sector regardless of what Social Policy Minister John Dalli says, said the Malta Labour Party’s spokesman for health, Karl Chircop in a statement.

Lack of investment in the primary care and preventive sector was most lacking during the past 10 years. In fact, expenditure of health centres is just a drop when compared to that of hospitals. This is the opposite of what takes place in other countries and goes against World Health Organisation directives.

The government has completely ignored such a problem in the past ten years leading to the current problem of health centres not being able to reach demands they face. In consequence, a lot of patients end up calling at the Mater Dei Hospital Emergency Department.

The Labour Party therefore urges the government to treat this problem seriously since there is definitely no time to waste.
