Pop Fever

Malta Independent Saturday, 26 July 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

As part of the Pop Series of concerts, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be presenting – Pop Fever – at the Mediterranean Conference Centre tomorrow evening. The programme will include music from quite a few of the greatest pop artists of all time such as Madonna, the Rolling Stones, Bryan Adams, Boney M and many others.

This year the concert has been entrusted to Roderick Bugeja, the Orchestra’s Principal trombone who also happens to be bandmaster of the Vittoria Band Club at Naxxar and the Duke of Connaught’s Own Band in Birkirkara. On this occasion Roderick will be taking up the challenge of directing his colleagues in this exciting and fresh concert.

The Chairman and Board of the orchestra believe and make a great effort to encourage and promote local talent and guest artists will be Sixth Simfoni, Malta’s best Hip Hop and R’n’B Music Award winners and female singer Gloriana Arpa.

Gloriana is no newcomer to the local music scene. Daughter of Helen Micallef and niece of the popular Renato Micallef she has undoubtedly inherited a wonderful voice.

Sixth Simfoni lately recorded two tracks for their new album with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. This experiment of mixing a philharmonic

orchestra with a hip hop band has been successful and taking to the stage to entertain live the audience at MCC will certainly be an innovative and winning approach.

Pop Fever is an open invitation to all those who prefer pop classics - this time interpreted by Malta’s most talented and dedicated musicians - an opportunity not to be missed.

Tickets starting from just 12 euros may be purchased from the Box Office at MCC.
