1 Division

San Giljan TJ 7

Sirens CC 6

(2-1)(1-2)(2-1)(2-2)

San Giljan left it till the last match of the league campaign to register their first points in the top division. They had the better of a Sirens side, shorn of two of their foreign players, having only Caprani in goal. San Giljan also had Kreckovic missing through injury, but they will now celebrate their feast day in a better frame of mind.

Sirens were but a shadow of the team that nearly upset Sliema, and they were only once in front throughout the whole match.

San Giljan slammed in two goals by Kayne Lanzon and John Xeri de Caro, beating Caprani all ends up, before Clint Mercieca reduced the arrears for Sirens late in the opening session. The same Mercieca then levelled the score in the second quarter, but Paul Fava flashed in another snorter for the Saints.

It was Jurgen Borg who made it 3-3 for Sirens, as teh two sides went in on equal terms at the interval.

Ryan Mock put Sirens ahead after the break, but then Sirens lost a gilt edged chance to double their lead, but missed penalty as David Cutajar saw dean Camilleri smothering his shot. Sirens paid dearly, as San Giljan forged in front, thanks to goals by Andrea Bianchi and a Radu Gospodinov penalty. Sirens had to wait till the start of thge last quarter for Jurgen Borg to shoot in their equalising goal, at 5-5, but a Claudio Spiteri de Barro flick from close range put the Saints ahead once more, and they went one better, as Andrea Bianchi increased their lead. Dvaid Cutajar gave Sirens some hope, with his long distance shot, but San Giljan held out till the end, to record their win. and avenge their previous two defeats at the hands of Sirens.
