The Electoral Commission will be receiving applications from candidates of the fourth electoral district to replace the post occupied by the late Dr Karl Chircop. The Labour MP passed away earlier this month.

Candidates who contested the fourth district and were not elected can apply between tomorrow and Wednesday, between 10am and noon. The district is made up of Gudja, Ghaxaq, part of Marsa, Paola, Santa Lucija and Tarxien.

There are only three MLP candidates who can contest the post. They are former MLP deputy leader Joe Brincat, Gino Cauchi and Sebastian Muscat. The other two MPs of the district are Silvio Parnis and Charles Mangion, while Owen Bonnici and Joe Sammut were elected in casual elections from the third and fifth districts respectively.
