Italian Language certification in Malta

Malta Independent Friday, 24 October 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Società Dante Alighieri (SDA) will be organising a public presentation during which details will be given regarding the PLIDA Italian language certification. The PLIDA certificate attests proficiency in Italian as a foreign language and corresponds to the six levels of language proficiency established by the Council of Europe in the Common European Framework for Languages.

There is also the PLIDA Commerciale, intended for those who study and use Italian in the business and finance world. This diploma certifies proficiency for three of the six levels envisaged by the Framework: B1, B2, and C1. All PLIDA certifications are officially recognised by the Italian authorities.

The SDA is the only certification centre in Malta. Besides running examinations twice a year according to the international calendar established by the head office in Rome, SDA organises courses and assists teachers and independent schools wishing to consider this certification.

PLIDA has already been introduced at St Martin’s College in Swatar and the head of school will explain the philosophy behind the College’s strategic choice to offer students the PLIDA Italian language certification. An important testimonial will be offered by Malta Enterprise, with whom the PLIDA Commerciale has been successfully introduced with staff at various levels.

Parents, teachers, training managers from commercial and financial institutions, and individuals, are invited to attend the presentation at the Italian Cultural Institute in Palace Square, Valletta today at 6pm as part of the Italian Language Week organised worldwide by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
