Mrs Mary Fenech Adami yesterday presided over a press conference announcing a concert of sacred music by the St Paul Choral Society on the occasion of the 10th anniversary since the choir was founded.

The “O Praise the Lord” concert is being held on Friday 31 October, at 7.30pm in collaboration with the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation and under the distinguished patronage of the President and Mrs Fenech Adami.

The highlights of this concert will be two newly added works in the choir’s repertoire: Chandos Anthem No. 9 (O Praise the Lord with One Consent) by G. F. Handel and the Te Deum in B flat major (We praise thee, O God) by Charles Villiers Stanford. Other works in the programme include Sancta Maria, Mater Dei by Mozart, the Kyrie from Louis Vierne’s Messe Solennelle, Regian Coeli by Mgr Carmelo Scerri and I was Gald by Hubert Parry.

The 60-strong choir will be accompanied on the Cathedral organ by Elisabeth Conrad and by 20 musicians under the leadership of Sarah Spiteri. Four renowned soloists will also be taking part: Rosabelle Bianchi (soprano), Claire Massa (mezzo soprano), Charles Vincenti (tenor) and Albert Buttigieg (bass). The concert will be directed by Hugo Agius Muscat.

Admission is free. However, a financial contribution in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund will be appreciated. Such donations can be made on the day or deposited in Lombard Bank account number 00019118746. Seating will be on first-come, first-served basis. Stiletto heels and other narrow heels cannot be worn in the Co-Cathedral.
