MADC Panto Moves to MFCC in Ta’ Qali

Malta Independent Monday, 27 October 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Tickets for the eagerly awaited MADC pantomime starring Alan Montanaro will go on sale from Saturday 1 November. This year the MADC has upped sticks and moved from its traditional Manoel Theatre haunt to the exciting MFCC venue in Ta’ Qali. The MADC team are promising a bigger and better panto than ever before – with all the well-loved trimmings patrons expect.

Writer and actor Alan Montanaro said: “The MADC Panto is the longest running show in Malta and, for over thirty years, it has been a popular Christmas tradition that brings families together for one night of unabashed fun.

“This year we will be following young Sinbad on his travels, meeting whacky dame Zeza and making magic once again. The MADC Christmas panto is one of the few places where the whole family can sit down together and be truly entertained on all levels. The MADC panto promises to be bigger, better and more spectacular than ever – so don’t miss out!”

The MADC Panto is synonymous with Christmas and over the last 30 years the MADC has played to over 145,000 people during more than 220 fun-packed shows – easily a local record.

Panto-dame extraordinaire Alan Montanaro will spearhead this year’s show and the star-studded cast includes Steffan Cheriet Busuttil, Eliza Borg, Nanette Brimmer, Katherine Brown, Keith Pavia, Ralph Mangion, Rachel Darmanin Demajo, David Ellul Mercer, Jean Pierre Agius, Renato Dimech and Adrian Gatt – as well as a fabulous all-singing, all-dancing chorus of 28 talented performers.

The crew will be led by veteran panto director Fredrick Testa and choreographed by Alison White. Musical direction will, for the 11th consecutive year, be in the hands of Paul Abela, set design will be handled by Oscar-winner Peter Howitt and the dame’s extravagant costumes will be designed by John Williams. Lino Mallia, as stage manager, and his team will be pulling out all the stops to ensure unbridled spectacle steals the show.

The MFCC venue in Ta’ Qali allows for more seating capacity and MADC is offering cheaper tickets than it used to in previous years. Tickets, which go on sale from Saturday 1 November, will range in price from e10 to e17. As of 1 November, patrons are invited to book their tickets online through www.madc.biz.

The 31st MADC Christmas panto is supported by GO, Agenda Bookshops and Island Caterers.
