Customs officers intercepted a Russian man who had just arrived in Malta on a flight from Moscow after attempting to smuggle about 30,000 contraband cigarettes, a Customs statement said. The cigarettes were found in the man’s luggages. The taxes, which are due on the cigarettes, amount to around e4500.

The man is being investigated by the economic crimes section.
