Time To discuss PSD

Malta Independent Sunday, 1 March 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

I refer to Josie Muscat’s article entitled “Responsible families” (TMIS, 22 February. The mention of PSD is more of a sweeping statement than anything else. It is utterly unfair to place “the mores of our society as well as the effects of PSD in schools” in one basket.

Dr Muscat’s notion of the educational system and of society appears to be very simplistic. He does not tell us what the specific “effects” of PSD are. Are they positive, not positive enough or downright negative? Which areas should be improved? What is the role of the PSD teacher in promoting healthy families? Who are the other stakeholders that ought to promote healthy families?

This subject merits serious discussion and positive outcomes, free from condescending attitudes.
