Tell It to the marines

Malta Independent Saturday, 7 March 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

I was quite surprised when I heard that Sharon Ellul Bonici is going to be one of the candidates at the European Parliament election. I remember Sharon Ellul Bonici being against Malta’s membership of the EU during the referendum and the election, both of which were held in 2003, so how come that now she has changed her direction? In the article entitled Why I campaigned against Malta’s entry into the EU, she wrote:

“The main reason I campaigned against Malta’s entry into the EU was the misinformation being given at that time”.

Personally, she didn’t convince me that she was against Malta’s EU membership only because of that. The citizens were well informed about the EU membership because of the MIC and also because of the ads shown on local television.

It was announced that Ms Ellul Bonici is going to be a candidate for the MEPs election because Labour Party leader Joseph Muscat asked her. Something like this makes me think and say that Ms Ellul Bonici is nothing but Dr Muscat’s puppet on a string. If she’s anti EU, which she showed us as crystal clear in the 2003 referendum and election, and also founded a group NO2EU, how come she’s going to contest for the EPs election? I believe that those who are going to contest in this election should believe in the EU, no more no less!

I’m curious about only one thing, does this have to do with the earthquake that Dr Muscat had mentioned last summer? If yes, Dr Muscat, go tell that to the marines!
