Football: Juventus And Inter eyeing Chelsea’s Deco

Malta Independent Sunday, 8 March 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

Juventus and Inter are reported to be eyeing the £6m rated Deco from Chelsea.

The Portuguese star playmaker was picked up for £8m from Barcelona by former coach Luis Felipe Scolari, who has since been sacked and replaced by Guus Hiddink.

Deco has failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge and, according to The Sun, he is now expected to move on.

Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Turin, where Chelsea aim to hang on to their 1-0 lead over Juventus, could prove the catalyst for negotiations looking forward to next season.

The 31-year-old is being eyed by Juve as a replacement for Pavel Nedved, who has announced he will retire at the end of this term.

However, Juve will not be alone in the hunt for his signature. In fact, Inter coach Jose Mourinho will certainly be interested to get one of his former favourite players since the times of Porto.

Juventus have also been linked with Diego and Antonio Cassano. However, coach Claudio Ranieri, while saying that Cassano was a great player, also warned the Werder Bremen man does not fit into his 4-4-2 system.

Deco is preferred not only because of his experience, but he would also cost half the price they would have to pay for Diego.
