St. George’s 1

Rabat Ajax came from behind to beat St. George’s 2-1 and move to a healthier position in the lower part of the table.

For the Saints it was the third consecutive defeat after conceding two defeats in the Cottonera derbies. Rabat fully deserved their victory with Albanian midfielder Wilson Caushi giving a five star performance.

After a slow start St George’s forged ahead on 18 minutes when John Nwoba beat a couple of defenders before beating goalkeeper James Borg from the rebound.

Rabat immediately surged forward and going near through Caushi and Adrian Mifsud. On 31 minutes Smeir was brought down inside the area and from the resultant penalty Adrian Mifsud made no mistake. However Mifsud was injured in taking the penalty and had to be carried off the field.

Seven minutes later Rabat took a deserved lead when Caushi passed to the unmarked Smeir who easily slotted home. Just before the break Caushi missed a sitter when he miskicked the ball in front of goal.

The Saints were more aggressive in the second half, but their pressure was fruitless. Their best chance came on 76 minutes when Heathcliff Schembri incredibly missed an easy chance with only Borg to beat.

Rabat were dangerous in their breaks and earlier in the second half Caushi hit the base of the upright after a brilliant solo run.
