Cricket: Melita Beat top club Krishna to get back in contention for title

On Saturday Melita C.C took on Krishna C.C in the winter league.

The Krishna team batted first. Nowell Khosla and John Grima opened the batting. Grima was bowled in with the first ball he faced. Faraaz Bhatti was next in and managed a thirty seven run partnership with Khosla before being bowled, he made ten runs. Sam Dhandapani playing his first game in over six months managed to score nine runs. Sam Aquilina scored seven runs including a four. Kevin Krishna scored seven runs and Andy Naudi three runs. Khosla managed to hold his innings and scored 53 runs from a total team score of 95 runs. For Melita Andy Lenard and Anthony Roberts were the main wicket takers with two wickets each.

It took the Melita team fourteen and a half overs to complete a convincing win over the favourites.

Andy Lenard opened the batting and scored 28 runs including two fours. Joy Ghoseroy also opened and managed to score 37 runs including four fours. Both these batsmen were out to Nowell Khosla who was the only wicket taker for Krishna. Justin Brooke (14 runs not out) and Anthony Roberts (11 runs not out) made the rest of the runs which were needed.

With this amazing turn around in form from the Melita players after tieing with Marsa the week before they now have an outside chance of winning the league. From this game they earned eight points which now puts them in front of the Marsa team (15 points) with 16 points. Krishna are still on top with 22 points.

Today the last two games of the league will be played. Krishna C.C vs Melita C.C at 10.30 am and Krishna C.C vs Marsa C.C at 2:00pm.

On Saturday the Marsa team will be playing against new touring team Whittingdon CC from the UK – 10.30 am start.

The Nursery/Academy will be from 9.30am till 11.30am.
