In the first match of the second round, Sliema secured an important victory against a rather resilient Sirens side which gave as good as they got in the first two sessions. In fact it was Sirens who took the lead through Mock but Sliema equalised through Soler and Valletta put Sliema ahead only for Zammit to equalise for Sirens.

The second session produced only one goal through Paolella to give Sliema the edge again.

In the third session, Sliema began to pull away with two goals by Valletta and Soler. Mock pulled one back for Sirens but Soler re-established a three goal advantage soon after by Soler. Cutajar scored to make it 6-4 and Zammit made it 6-5 to set up a scorching final session.

Valletta re-established Sliema’s two goal lead with a scorcher from a distance whilst Soler made the result look flattering for Sliema in the final minute.

San Giljan ASC 7

In a closely fought encounter, San Giljan squared up to league leaders Neptunes and gave them what can be termed as a good run for their money with the latter only making sure of the points in the final session.

Gialanze gave San Giljan the lead with Lanzon and Stellini putting Neptunes ahead. Bianchi scored from a penalty to equalise for San Giljan.

The second session saw the lead swing back to Neptunes with Camilleri but Pace equalised for San Giljan before Pisani scored again to make it 4-3 for Neptunes. Two goals from Spiteri Debarro and Gialanze however ended the session in favour of San Giljan.

The third session saw San Giljan increase their lead through Borg Spiteri as they were giving as good as they got. Pisani pulled it back to 6-5 with a fine goal from a distance and equalised with a penalty. The fourth session saw Neptunes take the lead through Karl Galea with Cachia made it 8-6. Bianchi then scored from a penalty to make it 8-7 and set up a tense finale. Stellini made it 9-7 for Neptunes from a counter. In the final minute, Neptunes made it 11-7 through two goals by Nikki Lanzon.

Marsascala ASC 7

Exiles and Marsascala squared up for some points to determine the lowers placings of the Winter League. Sullivan gave Exiles the lead after a nice long shot from the distance but Marsaskala were prompt to equalise seconds later through Licari and took the lead through Ghirxi.

Pace Lupi re-established parity for Exiles with another fine shot from afar. Marsascala re-took the lead from a penalty converted by Peter Borg but Griscti again equalised for Exiles and Calleja scored to make it 4-3 for Exiles. Pace Lupi scored to make it 5-3 in an animated first session.

The second session began with Exiles increasing their lead through Sullivan and Pace Lupi. The third session was also a balanced affair with Licari reducing the deficit for Marsascala although Enriquez made it 8-4 for Exiles seconds later and Licari scored again for Marsascala. Micallef further reduced the deficit for Marsascala to make it 8-6.

The final session saw Marsascala edge closer with a fine goal from Licari but Rizzo Naudi made it 9-7 with an equally fine goal. Pace Lupi made the points certain for Exiles
