Bupa will accompany Compleet into the playoff final, best of three matches. They disposed of Siggiewi, making it seven out seven in games against them.
Marco Matijevic was the driving force behind the champions, whilst JP Bonnici proved a handful to Bupa's defence, and had quite a satisfactory outing.
Siggiewi felt the absence of Peter Shoults, who was abroad. Siggiewi went out, and took a basket lead on three occasions, but when the Violets got going, they ran up a good 14-2 break, as Matijevic and Dirk Schembri began to pierce their opponents' zone.
Siggiewi stopped the run with Bonnici's trey, but Bupa still held a good lead. In the second quarter Suggiewi had Ian Mercieca sinking a trey, and Bonnici with more points, but the champions were also putting in their hoops, and when Matijevic was well served in the paint, Bupa made a strong 14-0 run, which took them to the end of the period. At the interval they had progressed to a 38-19 advantage.
After the break both teams took time to get going again. After Siggiewi's opening hoop the Violets managed an 8-2 run, with a Robert Azzopardi trey, but the hoops became scarce for a while, until Bupa came up with another 8-2 run, as Marco Mercieca made his presence felt. Siggiewi rallied, but could only share the points, as Bupa went into a mind easing 58-29 lead. In the final quarterAbraham Portelli sank a trey for Bupa, and although Bonnici was still prominent for Siggiewi, it was Dirk Schembri with some strong play, and a couple of flying dunks for Bupa, among other personal points. Then it became an open match, as the Bupa bench players made their points, including a Mark Micallef trey. At the other end Bonnici ran up a good personal score, with Nikola Vasovic putting in the last two hoops for the champions.
