A goal just before the break proved to be enough for San Gwann against bottom of the table Senglea Athletics.

The match never reached high standards and goalmouth actions were scarce.

The result leaves Senglea at the bottom of the table with only eight points to their credit, and their salvation hopes were yesterday dealt an almost deadly blow.

On the other hand this win lifts San Gwann to a healthier position, having now joined off-form St George’s on 17 points.

Senglea had the best chance of the first half when San Gwann goalkeeper Spiteri brilliantly saved a Felice freekick, with the same Spiteri denying Cosaitis from the rebound.

On 35 minutes Senglea’s Leeroy Bonnet missed a sitter when he failed to score with only Spiteri to beat.

Just before the break San Gwann scored what proved to be the winner, when Sergio Hili served Aboulez, who rounded off two defenders before hitting home from the heart of the penalty area.

Senglea failed to make a decent reaction in the second half, and San Gwann controlled their opponents with relative ease.

San Gwann had several chances with their fast breaks but failed to add to their tally.
