The fairest solution as to what type of building should be built on the site of the Royal Opera House is to let the people decide in a referendum to choose, either a) the Edward Middleton Barry design and build the Royal Opera House exactly as it was, or b) the Renzo Piano design of a roofless arts centre.
This would be a great opportunity for the government to show that it is willing to heed the people’s wishes after its recent electoral experience and not carry on regardless.
