Loud Music

Malta Independent Sunday, 12 July 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

As far back as 14 September 2008, I answered Roger de Gorgio’s letter in The Malta Independent on Sunday that told us citizens of Malta and residents of a wide area that the noise coming from Gianpula “is just a hum reaching the village area, and anything but, other than that it is an exaggeration.” I answered to the effect that it is not factual to reality.

I repeat that this hum is, in fact, loud music and is reaching areas as far as Zebbug and Dingli (TMIS, 5 July).

I emphasise that this is not a one-off village feast.

We are enduring this strong disco music up until 4am.

The continuous beat of the music makes it quieter during the day than it is at night.

Although complaints have been coming from all sources over a long period of time, this loud disco music keeps coming at night with impunity.

I, like others who have written complaining about the level of noise, only ask that the beat of this music is lowered, taking into consideration the many people trying to sleep in the villages and towns close by.

It is unfair of Mr de Gorgio to subject everyone else to the beat of his party-goers.

It is doubly unfair of him to insist that everyone must stay up practically all night, listening to a party they have no inclination to join and then claiming that we are not hearing his music!

I am of the belief that everyone is entitled to a decent night’s rest and hope that this plea, which is both natural and civilised, will finally reach the proper authorities, since so far it has only reached deaf ears – to the detriment of our health.
