Malta Independent Thursday, 17 September 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

MaltaPost’s Philatelic Bureau yesterday issued a set of four stamps portraying typical scenes from the Maltese landscape entitled ‘Scenery’.

The 2009 ‘Scenery’ collection is the second issue of a series following the first which was issued in October 2007.

The stamps portray four spectacular scenes which are: powerful rough seas at Qbajjar, Gozo, the Gnejna watchtower built by the Knights of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, the salt pans at Qbajjar and a view of the Ggantija temples. The stamps carry a face value of e0.02, e0.07, e0.37 and e1.02 respectively.

They have been designed by Stefan Attard. All stamps have been offset printed on Maltese Crosses watermarked paper by Printex Limited and are available in sheets of 10.

The e0.37 stamp depicting the Qbajjar salt pans will form part of a joint stamp issue in the SEPAC Collection (Small European Postal Administrations Cooperation) named ‘Beautiful Corners of Europe 2’, the common theme chosen for this year is scenery.

The SEPAC collection will include a special folder containing the 12 SEPAC stamps issued this year from each member postal administration. The SEPAC issues are aimed to highlight member countries and promote philately. SEPAC members are the postal administrations of Aland Islands, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Guernsey, Iceland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, San Marino, and the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau.

Orders for the SEPAC special folder ‘Beautiful Corners of Europe 2’ will be taken at all MaltaPost branches, from the MaltaPost mobile van and from the Philatelic Bureau in 305, Triq Hal-Qormi, Marsa MTP 1001 (tel. no.: 2596-1740, email: [email protected]).
