Court: Suspended Sentence after fight in political party club

Mario Attard, 55 from Hamrun, has been sentenced to 14 months in jail, suspended for three years, after he was found guilty of provoking a fight at the Kirkop Labour Party club five years ago.

He had injured Ivan Pirotta from Qormi with a penknife and other persons were involved in the fight. The accused had reported the incident to the police himself. He was also found guilty of possessing a knife without a police licence. Magistrate Lawrence Quintano presided the court. Superintendent Carmelo Borg and Joseph Agius prosecuted. Lawyers José Herrera, Veronique Dalli and Noel Bianco appeared for the accused.
